Gothenburg 83 Book update moving forward

ullevi-gothenburg

An update on the Gothenburg 83 book that quite a few of you on here contributed to, almost 6 years since it went out! Over 10000 downloads, all for free, and multiple vague promises to update it and clean it up a bit, kept not happening, as it was a fair bit of work. Not complaining*, it was a pleasure to put together as it was reading your stories.

The original book had been very organic, I became wary I had accidentally stumbled upon something important, so didn’t want to mess with people’s content. In the end, from a design point of view it became a ‘dog’s dinner’.

When I finally got round to redoing it, I began taking it apart significantly to go back more to what my original concept had been.

It has become a fully illustrated book on Gothenburg 83.   All your photos are gone, all your match tickets and souvenirs are out. It becomes my book, on your stories. And in addition, your stories are now an awful lot easier to read, lot more professional.

So far, so good. Except I’m tired of giving away stuff for free (I am sure that could be worded more nicely, but here we are).

This version of the book will be for sale. As a PDF to download. It’s not ready yet, but hopefully in about a week. The old book, is now gone from the website. Albeit, it’s out there. Not everyone will have deleted it, surely!!

So there are two things here, if your story is in there, do you have an issue with me selling the book with your story in? I haven’t put my down payment on my Porsche just yet, bearing in mind the first version did nicely for free, this isn’t going to sell in any sort of numbers, but it is going to be kind of cool, it’s not about the money, it’s about the value in what I’ve made…. but get in touch via messaging on the Facebook page if you have a strong opinion you want to share.

A white label version

In a few months I am going to put together another version of the book. This will be a white label version of all the stories. No design, no illustrations. Just everything that was sent in, as a ‘historical document’ with some sort of whatever Wikipedia does with public content. Common use, something like that?

Again, your thoughts opinions on this gratefully received.
